The Sun conjunct the Sun is a complex aspect in synastry. The impact of this aspect depends on a variety of factors.
Most people are familiar with the Sun in astrology. When people say what their sign is, they are usually referring to their Sun Sign.
Many sites, including this one, will discuss compatibility according to the placement of the Sun in the charts of the two people involved. These discussions are based on the synastry aspects between the Sun in their two charts.
The Sun is an important planet when it comes to synastry. It represents our ego and our individuality. It can help a relationship, but it can also get in the way.
A conjunction occurs when two planets are in the same place in the zodiac in the charts of two people. It can be positive, negative, or neutral based on the planets that are involved.
Sun Conjunct Sun in Synastry
When the Sun is conjunct the Sun in synastry, the two people are alike in some fundamental ways. This can bring them together and it can create problems. The two may be too much alike to be able to get along with each other.
The Sun also holds our ego and our sense of self-worth. If two people have the Sun in the same place, it is easy for them to clash out of competition for the spotlight and out of pride.
Even so, the two involved also understand each other on a deep and fundamental level. They know what makes each other tick.
This aspect tends to be worse in signs in which the Sun is more powerful, such as Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius. It is also difficult in the sign of Aquarius.
It tends to be easier in signs in which the Sun is softened, such as Scorpio, Libra, Cancer, and Capricorn.
Other Aspects
The Sun conjunct Sun can also be tricky to interpret in synastry because it usually involves a complex entanglement between Mercury and Venus in the two charts are well.
Mercury is never more than twenty-eight degrees from the Sun, and Venus is never more than forty-five degrees. This means that Mercury and Venus may be conjunct as well.
If that is the case, the two become even more alike. Conjunctions between these planets will help the two get along better and will reduce the tendency to clash over egos.
Alternatively, Mercury and/or Venus may be in adjacent signs, which will increase the potential for conflict and misunderstanding between the two.
Another thing to consider is that signs tend to run in families. This means that there is a high incidence of this aspect between family members, which can account for quite complicated connections between them.
House Positions
The House that this conjunction falls in each person’s chart will also color the meaning of this aspect.

Man’s Sun Conjunct Woman’s Sun Relationship
This can be a challenging aspect in a romantic relationship. While the two may or may not get along, they will have the same strengths and weaknesses.
This means that it will be hard for them to balance each other.
The difficulties will generally not show up during the early stages of their relationship. At that time, they will tend to focus on all the things that they have in common, and there will be a lot of them.
It is only later on that the lack of balance will start to become an issue. If the relationship deepens, and they move in together or marry, they will tend to both be good at the same things and bad at the same things. If there are practical skills for living that they both lack, this could be a real problem.
Also, people have the tendency to get annoyed with traits in others that they do not like in themselves. This could cause conflict, especially if they live together or even spend a lot of time together.
As discussed above, signs tend to run in families. This means that if they have children, one or more of these children are very likely to have the sign of their parent’s Sun Sign prominent in their birth charts in some way. This will increase the abundance of energy of one sign in that household.
Sun Conjunct Sun in Friendship
The Sun conjunct the Sun is easier in a friendship relationship than it is in a romantic one.
Friends generally do not share close quarters with each other, and competition is not as damaging between friends as it is between romantic partners.
This means that the two will be freer to focus on the things that they have in common. They will enjoy similar things, and they will be able to find a lot to do together.
These two are not good advisors for each other, however. They are too much alike, and they share each other’s blind spots.
It is probably not a good idea for them to become roommates either.
How to Tell if the Sun is Conjunct the Sun in Synastry
If two people have the same Sun sign, the influence of this aspect will be present.
Also, the orb, or allowable margin of error, for the Sun is seventeen degrees. A sign is thirty degrees, so this is over half of the sign. This means that it is more likely than not that people with the same Sun sign will have Sun conjunct Sun by degree as well.
The closer the Sun is by degree, the stronger and more intense this aspect is.
As the position of the Sun is tied to a person’s birthday, this means that if people have the same birthday or a few days apart, this aspect will present and quite intense.
Because the Sun has such a wide orb, it is easy for two people to have this aspect across signs. This is complicated with the Sun conjunct the Sun.
Signs that are adjacent do not have much in common. The aspect will create a connection between them, however. They also could have Mercury and Venus in the same signs.
All of this means that this cross-sign conjunction needs to be analyzed in the context of the two charts involved.
Conclusion
The Sun conjunct Sun in synastry is easy to spot, but it can be complicated to interpret.
It will generally mean that two people are alike…almost too much alike. They will also tend to compete with each other and clash over matters of ego and pride.
This aspect is easier in friendships than it is in romantic relationships.

I was 59 when my first and only grandson was born and I was there for his birth, but not in the delivery room. My Progressed Sun was conjunct his Natal Sun. Therefore, both of our Progressed Sun's will be conjunct forever in time/space. Today the orb is 0 degrees and 41 minutes. I wonder how rare this is???
